A continuation of "A date...?"
Thursday night was a lovely night for a bonfire. Although it looked like rain early in the afternoon, it cleared up by the evening. A was late picking me up. Points off for that: I was already nervous AND I had taken Excedrin earlier to stave off an impending migraine, which makes me jittery. However, he did open my car door, so points back for that. We doubled with his friend and a girl in my ward, so that was good (N and R, respectively).
We drove out to Taylor and chatted. A told me about his recent trip to Guatemala. I told him about mine to the Bahamas. Conversation = good = less awkward first date. Excellent! When we got out there, we met the boys' friend and his wife (Friend and Wife, since I can't remember their names. Oops.). We were having the bonfire on the Friend's family's property.
As we were unloading the car and setting up a table and chairs, Friend's grandmother's cat came walking by. It immediately decided to jump on everyone sitting down so that the lucky person it jumped on could shower all his or her affection upon it. I didn't mind this too much, but R and A are both pretty allergic to cats, so it was a pain for them. It really became a problem when we had food on the table and cat decided it wanted some. Cat-infested tomatoes anyone?
After the cat attacked our food, N had had about enough. So while Friend and Wife were checking on the hamburgers, he put the very friendly cat in the trunk of his car and shut it. Not all the way, mind you, but enough that the cat wouldn't get out and start bothering us again. Unfortunately, when Wife found out, she was pretty mad, so she let the cat out, took it down Friend's grandma's (on the other side of the field), gave it some meat, came back, went in the house, and didn't come out for the rest of the evening. Oops. Not too thrilled about that one, was she?
After eating and talking around the fire for a while, N and A pulled out their guitars and tuned up. Spanish love song time, baby! After playing a little to get warmed up, they started on the song. A was trying to do the cool mandolin-sounding thing on his guitar, but it wasn't working out. It still sounded really good. I must say, I loved my Spanish love song. It had one line: "Janel, mi amor de las montanas." Translated: "Janel, my love of the mountains." LOVE IT! The guys were disappointed it didn't turn out as well as they had practiced. As A said, "We'll have to record it and give you a copy." Suites me fine, but I thought it sounded great.
They played a couple more songs, just messing around. Ooh, and A played one of my favorite songs ever, and sang, and MAN he does not have a bad voice. He ought to serenade all his dates. Anyways, after putting out the fire and cleaning up, we were on our way home. Doorstep scene: not awkward. Bonus points!!
All in all, it was a very good, fun date. Do I anticipate going on any more with this guy? Not really, but it was still fun.
The End.
