They taste like... burning!

I must apologize for the lack of posts as of late. To my defense, I've had a show, a huge paper, several projects, finals, and a massive head cold which have all in various ways prevented me from having much time to blog.

My massive head cold has made me appreciate something I never have before. This is pretty much the worst cold I've ever had. I've never been so congested in my entire life. With this lovely congestion, besides the coughing and the runny nose, I have clogged ears. I can't hear anything right, and my balance keeps getting messed up. Last night I was at a rehearsal playing the piano, and nothing sounded right, because I couldn't hear what I was playing. It was odd.

The worst part of the congestion is I can't smell anything. I never thought that would be such a big deal, but I can't taste anything either because I can't smell. Nothing tastes good. Yesterday I had some barbecue potato chips (my favorite) and I couldn't taste them. I could tell they were salty, but that was it. Today I had some chocolate/white marble cake, and I couldn't tell when it was chocolate. It was sweet, but nothing else. I miss flavors!

Granted, it hasn't been all bad. The other day my coworker went on an ant-killing frenzy and sprayed Raid everywhere. Apparently it was pretty strong, but I couldn't tell. Still, I wish I could smell things I like.

Today, some of my sense of smell is coming back finally, and I don't think I've ever been so glad to smell smoke before. So all I can say is.... appreciate your sense of smell. Because it's better than you think.

P.S. Happy birthday to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Congestion is of the devil. Ok, maybe not, but it certainly feels that way. I hope you're feeling better!
